England women’s stars gearing up for festive domestic showdown

England women’s stars gearing up for festive domestic showdown

There’s no letting up on the women’s domestic rugby scene with an array of fixtures pencilled in ahead of the Christmas holidays.

Action will be taking place in just one of the Women’s Six Nations leagues as sides in England are all vying to put points on the board before the holidays.

Here’s what we have to look forward to this weekend in a big weekend in the Tyrrells Premier XVs:

Saracens aiming to sting Wasps

High-flying Saracens can stretch their advantage at the summit of Tyrrells Premier XVs in a tantalising showdown with fourth-placed Wasps.

Saracens dazzled last time out by clinching a barnstorming 48-0 win against Richmond as England’s Poppy Cleall warmed up to the 2019 Women’s Six Nations in perfect fashion with an impressive hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Wasps were able to record a comfortable victory over bottom of the table Worcester Valkyries last weekend – a feat they will be hoping to repeat against the league leaders.

England scrum-half Claudia MacDonald scored two tries as Wasps recorded their biggest win of the season so far against the Valkyries.

Quins waiting to pounce

If Saracens were to slip up, waiting in the wings will be challengers Harlequins as they take on winless Worcester in Round 13.

No.8 Jade Konkel starred with a show-stopping four-try haul as Harlequins downed Firwood Waterloo in Round 12 with a 65-0 win.

Loughborough Lightning can keep pace with the title chasers if they can get the better of Bristol Bears at Shaftesbury Park off the back of a 29-10 win over Gloucester-Hartpury.

England’s Catherine O’Donnell, who scored in the Autumn international victory over Ireland, crossed the whitewash either side of half time in the victory.

Elsewhere, Gloucester-Hartpury face Firwood Waterloo, while Richmond take on Darlington Mowden Park Sharks in the weekend’s opening fixture.
