Scotland Women head coach Phillip Doyle has made two changes to the starting XV which lost to England a fortnight ago, for Sunday’s clash against Italy in Legnano.

Backs Hannah Smith and Megan Gaffney return to the fold having missed the England clash in Round 2 through injury with Evie Tonkin and Sarah Law both dropping to the bench.

A slight reshuffle in the back line sees Helen Nelson move inside to fly-half, while Lisa Thomson starts in the No.12 jersey.

The pack that played in treacherous conditions at BT Murrayfield last time out has been unchanged.

Le Azzurre have claimed wins over Scotland in their previous two Women’s Six Nations encounters and Doyle admits it could result in an entertaining contest at Stadio Giovanni Mari.

He said: “I was pleased with how the team played against Ireland in the opening match of the Six Nations. With Hannah [Smith] and Megan [Gaffney] returning to the team it made sense to use the same strong starting team for this important match against Italy.

“England was tough for the team but there was also a lot of key learnings that came from it. We have been focusing on these at training this week and I am confident that it will make us stronger.

“It will be a demanding match on Sunday but the way that Italy play will complement us as they are a fast side. It is sure to be an entertaining match.”
