Two-try Cleall fires Saracens into Premier 15s final

Poppy Cleall

Poppy Cleall grabbed two tries to inspire Saracens to a 30-10 win over Harlequins and book a place in the Allianz Premier 15s final.

In a rematch of last year’s final, Saracens got their revenge on the champions and it was England star Cleall who was a cut above the rest in a convincing victory.

She crossed twice in the first half, both times picking and going when she spotted a gap in the Harlequins fringe defence.

Quins had enjoyed some pressure early on but could not take advantage, where Saracens were much more clinical.

After Cleall had put Saracens in front, it was another England star who added a second, Marlie Packer showing all her strength to power through the tackle of Sarah Beckett to make it 12-0.

England flyer Jess Breach pulled a try back for Harlequins, but Cleall’s second try on the stroke of half-time effectively sealed victory.

Quins never really threatened a comeback and Saracens ran out comfortable winners.

Cleall, who helped England to Grand Slam glory last month, said: “It’s been such a tough league this season. It’s so good to get a home semi-final and win in front of this great crowd is awesome.

“It was tough, especially having two sin-bins. It’s been a hard season, picking up a few knocks here or there.”
